Winter theme ideas?

I am a preschool teacher and i am running out of circle ideas for my class (4 and 5 yrs) please help

Whenever I hear of winter I think of snowflakes...I know its been done already but I think paper flakes are a good idea...

~Winter Theme Ideas~

#1: Winter Numberland: creates this file folder activity to help children use number skills as they match numbers 1-10 during a winter theme.

Materials: White paper, contact paper for laminating, file folder, scissors, and tape.

Description: You will need to make 20 snowflakes, but only 10 different patterns, out of the white paper.

To do this you will cut 20 squares of paper to what ever size you want. Then take two pieces of paper at a time and fold them. Next, cut to make the snowflakes.

Once you have 10 patterns and 20 snowflakes take two snowflakes of like patterns and write the number 1 on one and draw one circle on the other. Take the second like pattern and write the number 2 on one snowflake and draw two circles on the other and so on, until you have done that for all 10 snowflake patterns.I did each number in a different color. Then laminate all 20 snowflakes.

Tape the 10 numbered snowflakes on the file folder and keep the snowflakes with the circles loose. The child can then take a snowflake with the circles, count the circles, and match the number of circles to the number on the snowflakes on the file folder.

have each child name something they need for winter, like coat boots and so on,   take turns. or name some things they can do in the winter when they can;t go out side.'      or what happens like Santa comes  or it snows.  then let them draw a picture of winter things that you talked about.

Bring in a small fake christmas tree and have all of your students make a paper ornament and then read them a story about ornaments and then let them put there ornament on the tree!

If your room is large enough you might create a 'snow globe' reading area.  Using a simple wood or pvc pipe frame, cover it with clear plastic sheets and glue snowflakes all over the sides.  Cover the floor with white fake fur throw rugs.  Hang more snowflakes from the ceiling.

Snow, ice, weather related transportation, hours of daylight and hats-mittens-coats.  I could go on and on but remember this just because it is winter every circle time idea does not have to revolve around that fact.  There are a lot of other things going on for them to talk about.

I'm a teacher too, and for winter, try "The Mitten" by Jan Brett, and there are a multitude of activities you can do with that. Animal matching, mitten lacing cards/stitching 2 mittens together. Color mitten match. and at circle you can make a large mitten out of felt or the like, and make or gather animal characters to put into it as the story goes on, etc.

For snow, there is this insta-snow stuff you get at teachers supply stores, and it expands 100x its size! It is amazing! You can put in the sensory table.  Wintertime is also a good time to study light and shadows. Take toilet paper tubes and collect tiny tissue paper  shapes or metallic confetti, put it between mylar or packing tape, then tape (clear packing tape) it to the end of the tube. -Kaleidescopes
