Have you been to a wedding in winter? Is it a good idea? Or does it just mean everyone freezes, the photos looks all grey and the flowers are not in season?

  1. Yes, we got married in late January. You can always get roses, and a lot more locations are open in the winter, just plan well.

  2. Depends on where you are and the climate.  My son and daughter-in-law were married in June, in Bundaberg.  The weather was beautiful and sunny.  Night was a little cool however, but we were all inside and pleasantly pissed by then!!

  3. Winter weddings can be some of the most romantic weddings.  There is SO much you can do to make it warm and cozy. You can make the entire wedding with a "winter wonderland" theme.  Icicle lights, cool blue tones, silver, crystals, all of which show up WONDERFULL in pictures.  You can have any kind of flowers that you want, all the flowers can be flown in, if they aren't in season.  Talk to a florist about what flowers are actually in season, that will help with the cost, but believe me a winter wedding can be beautiful...

  4. Winter weddings can be beautiful and elegant... maybe more than summer weddings... especially if there's fresh snow on the ground.  I always say, if I could do it all over again, I'd have a New Years Eve wedding.  Take your pictures before the start of the ceremony... when it's still light outside.  Make sure you buy one of those fabulous faux fur shawls (perhaps the best part of having a winter wedding!).  Then for the reception, have it continue well past midnight.  Everyone will be in a party mood and will want to stay till the end.  Of course, you'll need the DJ to have a countdown and lots of fun props for people to play with.  It would be fabulous!

  5. seems like you have already answered your own question.

  6. Winter wedding is fine ,just make sure that you do have backup indoor area incase the weather does decide to turn bad...

  7. I have been to one a few years ago.

I would suggest you get a room which is very bright

and light and use tablecloths to suggest a little colour with

matching serviettes.  Lighting also will be very important

so a reception room with lots of pot plants .

We had decided a reception room at a fantastic hotel and

it was for private functions and weddings.

The management,  knew we wanted lots of flowers cet.

they surprised us by nicking every pot plant from all the

venues...and placed them beautifully within our reception

room , it was done so well. i could not believe it was even

    the same room.

Nowadays , if you don't have that option, there are companies

whom actually rent everything from chairs to pot plants, so go

    and enquire.   I don't see a problem.

You can actuallygo to another spot where it is summer for

honeymoon, is one plus, your wedding could be considerably

better priced been in winter, and you get probably more choice

    of venue .

Even if you have a honeymoon at home , it would be great ,

because you are stuck in the room ! Hmmmm. at the sweet

that you stay at ? !   .... IN everything tthere'spositive points and

negatives ...ultimately it is your choice.

You won't feel so hot in that dress too.

  8. lol there is that but i bet your romantically thinking that everywhere will be white like a picture postcard, i doubt if your in england that will happen it will probaly be freezing and grey and chucking it down lol.

If you have it warmer months people look more colourful and happy and also if its in summer you can venture outside where if its winter youll probaly be stuck indoors.

I got married abroad and loved the warm weather.

  9. bad...4 ALL those reasons

  10. Good idea! You can take the wedding photos indoors.

  11. i kinda like sound of it u can have plasic snow flakes and winter kind of wedding

  12. I had a winter wedding (December), and it was amazing!

You have to make adjustments like making your guests stand outside and throw birdseed or bubbles might not be a good idea. Why would the photos look gray?? They don't....

And every season has some kind of flower for it. Roses are a good winter flower.

  13. Winter weddings can be spectacular.  I was the bridesmaid in a winter wedding and we all carried hand muffss (decorated with some white flowers) as our bouquets.  Kept our hand warm and matched the theme of the season.  The bride had a beautiful dress with fur around her collar and wrists - it was faux fur but still very pretty.

Another friend got married at her favorite ski resort and all the guests where of course in their best ski gear - the bride wore a beautiful dress and white sorrel boots.

Finally, my mom and dad where married just after Christmas ( it was a great time for them because all of my moms friends were at home from college on winter break ).  The pictures are absolutely beautiful.  She wore white, the grooms men wore black, the bridesmaids wore dresses of satin emerald green ( my mom and dad were married 1960 apparently before women began to sweat ) and their flowers were pointsettas and white flowers.  It was stunning.

Whatever time of year you choose for your wedding you can make it spectacular.  Just remember to keep the focus on you and your future spouse and you will not be disappointed.  Don't expect too much from your friends and family - of course you want them to be there to celebrate with you and join in this very special day.  And of course they want to be there too.  But there is no perfect day and not everyone will be able to make it.  This will be your anniversary date for the rest of your lives.  So, when do you want to celebrate?

My husband and I chose the fall - we love the season and the pictures with the changing leaves were amazing.  Once we decided the season we looked at the football schedule ( tons of our friends love to go to foot ball games) and we chose the weekend that our local team was not playing at all - neither home or away.  Then we picked that weekend in October and it has worked out great.  Now every year we have a big Octoberfest party and celebrate our anniversary with our family and friends.  They don't really realize that it is our anniversary celebration - they just come for the fun octoberfest party - but this is our way of celebrating our anniversary.

Good luck picking a date and most of all have fun with it - don't get too worked up - it is all about the two of you.

  14. yaa if its nt rainy..

  15. It all depends onwhere you live

    pros-

    beautiful scenery

    deeper colors

    warmer decor

    comfort food

    seasonal joy

    cons-

    driving in the weather

    potential storms

    less flowers in season

no outdoor photos (unless you want to freeze)

  16. I think it has a different charm on its own. I'm having a winter wedding and I've been racking my brains trying to figure out were to have our photos taken in the city that would look awesome. It obviously needs to be indoors as here it can go to -35!

But the thought of fresh flowers, warm dinners, and a warm atmosphere where outside is cold and snowy sounds still really nice. Just hope for a bit of snow... it's never too cold when it's just snowing out and the pictures will be incredibly romantic.

    All the best :)

  17. We were married February, and so was my sister. We both had wonderful weather...my favorite wedding I ever attended as a guest was held on New Year's Eve--I don't even remember the weather! If you have an evening wedding, the sky doesn't matter.

  18. On the plus side, the people that caterers for wedding photographer, flower people and every one else in the trade maybe willing to offer good discounts as it is not peak time, and they are all looking for work rather than turning it down as they do in summer and spring, get some quotes and start bargaining hard, they are hungary for work, as there is so little around.

  19. Hi.  Yes, I have been to plenty of winter weddings.  Where I live we have 6 months of winter, so it is unavoidable sometimes.

No, no one freezes as all of these are held indoors...usually a church wedding, with a reception at a hotel or banquet hall.

No outside photos unless the bride and groom are really brave!  I really don't mind it, but it is a pain as you want to look nice.  We have sloppy slushy snow, so most women usually wear boots and then change to nice shoes once they are in the church/reception hall.

Everyone has a good time and it can be beautiful and it is nice to break up the winter!

  20. my boyfriend's college buddy got married in Illinois in January 3 years ago (right after my bf and I started dating). It was SO much fun!!! it was freezing outdoors but the wedding was inside a beautiful and very warm church followed by an awesome reception (with a snowflake theme-so very pretty w/silver,blue,and white colors) in a very nice hotel w/several fireplaces and a heater that worked great!!

their pictures came out awesome too!! there weren't too many outdoors but there was a good foot of white snow on the ground and it made the perfect backdrop to the area where they snapped the pictures. no mud puddles, grey snow, or grassy patches. in additon, the skies were blue that day which turned out perfect!!

there were over 100 people there and we all had a great time. my boyfriend's sister got married in June of last year in the same area (different venues) and although her wedding was super beautiful and perfect, my boyfriend and I both agreed that his friend's wedding was more romantic b/c of the snow, cozy fireplaces, and cold weather which was the perfect reason to snuggle up.

and no matter what color theme you are looking for-you can find a winter flower to match it. roses never got out of season and can be dyed vivid colors that look great against snow for pictures.

    congrats!!!

  21. I had gorgeous red and purple flowers at my winter wedding.  The day was gorgeous and sunny.  Then we went someplace warm for a honeymoon!!
