Question:

Winterizing a pool and its accessories?

This may sound like a nutty question at the start of the summer. But we are considering getting a gas heater for our above ground pool. The sales rep for the gas cylinders was going over the options and one thing he mentioned was for the bigger heating units they are not comfortable with the owners disconnecting and said we should winterize the heater instead of bringing it in. I searched the topic and have not found anything on winterizing a pool heater. Does anyone know how this would be done? Also, is there a winterizing process for the pool pump/filter assemble that would allow it to remain in place as well. Every year we bring it in to the basement (no shed), but it is awkward and I fear damaging the plumbing connection from the pump to filter housing. If we could leave it all in place that would be great, even if it means building some type of housing for it. Thanks.

  1. I think for winterizing the heater you remove plugs so no water inside can freeze and expand causing damage to heater...have you considered a heat pump instead?...no gas cheaper to run: http://www.swimming-pool-information.com...
