Question:

Wired transfer chargeback?

I bought a product from an international merchant using wired transfer to transfer fund directly to the merchant's bank account from my bank account (we have different banks), and now it's been over 2 months and still haven't receive the item yet, and no contacts from the merchant. I am wondering, can the bank chargeback the merchant, like how a credit card company can?

I actually talked to my bank, they say the chances of a successful chargeback is very slim...close to 0... Is that true? Why is that? My bank has the merchant's bank account information, why can't they just take the money straight out from the merchant's bank directly?

  1. 1.  I'm afraid you may be out of the money.  Try to use a "safety net" and buying anything from someone you don't know.

    2.  They are correct.  Why is it close to 0?  Probably because the account was set up to run a scam is long gone and they probably used a "fake name" to open the account.

    3.  Legally there is no proof that this was a "scam" and to access someones account the way you want them to is illegal.

  2. If there isn't any money in the account, it's pretty hard to charge back.
