Wireless Connection. I have a DLINK 624 wireless router and I'm trying to connect with a laptop

I have a DLINK 624 wireless router and I'm trying to connect with a laptop using an SMC 2635W adapter. The card is working and can see the network SSID and when I select it, it gives me the first page of the card configuration utility. From there I can enter the security phrase and apply it but nothing happens. It just won't connect. Is there another parameter or something I need to set? There doesn't seem to be much I can configure.
