Wireless Internet Password?

Question

I recently reset my Linksys because the internet didn't seem to be working.. my old network was called "Home Network" and required a password, but now it's just linksys on my wireless computer. How do I change it back to "Home Network" with a password?

Type 192.168.1.1

enter admin as user name

enter password as password.

enter your new information.

You need to login to the router usually 192.168.1.1 in your webbrowsers address field.  If you reset the router it should be to the default login which is ususally linksys as the user name and admin as the password.  Once logged in you may edit your network's name and password in the settings.

I think you have to do this from a computer that is actually wired to the router with a network cable.

Do not!  A password is BAD for security reasons!  here's why:

those passwords are VERY easily cracked

its almost trivial

if somebody cracks your password and uses your internet connection you will be blamed.

on the other hand, if you leave it open, then its obvious that it could've been anybody, and you likely had nothing to do with it.

close the window that says available wireless networks and reopen it.  if it still says it is not available then connect to the old network then refresh the list and see if it comes up.  

also, did you unplug the router or did you hit "reset"?  if you hit reset please step away from your computer and never touch it again.  call your ISP it needs to be setup again.

go to 192.168.1.1

enter "admin" as BOTH password and user name.

click on wireless.

then click on wireless security.

then click on WEP.

then make a password.

then click save on the bottom right.
