Question:

Wireless Network problems

OK, I've asked this before in a few places. I'll try to explain clearly as I usually get the wrong replies.

I have Sky broadband using their supplied router. I have a Mac and a PC with a wired connection working fine. The PC laptop has wireless and tells me it's connected with an excellent strength signal. But when I disconnect the cable no pages will load in any browsers. Any ideas?

Sorry can't answer questions straight away, I'm not in front of them at the moment, just bored at work!

  1. I had problems with my sky router, but after a call to there helpline it was sorted very quickly. There Tech support is excellent.

  2. If I assume that this is the cable to the Laptop for internet then check the following:

    (a) Is your wifi card on your laptop configured for DHCP or there is a wrong IP address?

    (b) Is the network that is showing excellent coming from your router?

    (c) Try with another laptop or wifi card

  3. You need to setup the wireless network conection on the PC with the correct encryption and passphrase as entered into the router. There should be instructions on the the sky broadband package on the type of encryption and setting the password

If you tell us the make model of router and PC type of encryption may be we can help further. Also disable your firewall in windows as your router will have a better one built in and is one less thing preventing you connecting

  4. Right click on where it says signal strength excellent > connect to a network > highlight sky > click connect.
