Do I need to have AirPort or AirPort Extreme for my wireless network for my macbook? There is already an existing wireless network in my house, but all the other computers are PCs. Will the macbook function on this network or is Airport required?

  1. You don't need apples base station to provide internet for your macbook. I learned the hard way. I bought a airport extreme base station back in 2003 for my ibook G3 for $250.00 when they were new. And i can say that there is nothing special about them. I ended up buying a different wireless router in 2005. For $59.00!! Because my Airport base station wasn't giving enough coverage around my home. Much better signal and much more customization options.

  2. yes, just enable airport, and join the windows network.
