I've asked this question a couple of times, and i've just got dead end answers so i'm going to give the full details. DSL and Cable internet are not offered where i live...Its dial up or Wireless internet, however the only reason i would get the wireless internet would be so i can play this online baseball game. its a multi media player game so i need a reliable connection. So...Can i game with wireless internet from verizon??? Or will i lag?

  1. Maybe it's because your talking about two different things.

Bandwidth is the amount of data sent across a link at any given time.

Latency is the speed at which that signal travels across a medium.

Now you have wireless traveling through a medium that at anytime could be interupted by another, possibly stronger, wireless signal. Also, its traveling over a wider range that is unsecured unlike a telephone line or cable line traveling over a cooper wire run to a specific residence with a demarc usually close by. Wireless is more susceptable to lag and disconnects. You WILL experience drops. Todays wireless is good enough that this is kept to a minimum but, you WILL experience lag. Sometimes more than others. Depends on the area and signals already occupying the airwaves around you.

    The short answer, yes.

Really not trying for the sarcasm but, honestly answering your question.

  2. Your speaking of this service, right?

Get the 5GB plan. :) Most of the reviews at http://www.dslreports.com/comments/2957 mentioned the 5GB limit as being too low. Most users didn't see anywhere near the advertised speeds. Downloads seem to range in the 200 Kbps to 500 Kbps range.

My worry would be that you are using a shared medium -- namely the cellular telephone spectrum. As with any shared medium, there is a possibility of saturation as more people in your area sign on and there will be peak times when your access slows. My Verizon cell phone is practically worthless around 5 PM, so I wonder how your broadband will be.

They have a 30-day return policy, so you're best bet may be to check it out for a few weeks and then decide.

At least one gamer got it working:

  3. Of course you will lag, the question is, will the lag be too bad to play.  And unfortunately you wont know this until you play the game.

You can buy a wireless router and set it up to receive a wireless connection. Then you will get a more consistent signal.
