Wireless Router Signal Strength

My router is a couple years old. Has worked perfectly. I just moved to a new home and hooked up my cable. Now my signal strength fluctuates from medium to low, and I am right next to the router. I used SpeakEasy.net to test the download speed. Its 5000kbs connecting directly to the modem, and only 400kbs using D-Link. What can I try to fix the problem?
