Question:

Wireless Router for laptop?

Hi, I have a laptop and it is wireless. I can only connect to unsecured available networks. How do I go about setting up one of those secured networks that require a pass code to get into? Do I need a wireless router for that? I'm always searching for available networks that are within range and they are all secured. Thanks!

  1. YES,YOU WILL FIRST NEED A DSL ISP SUBSCRIPTION WHO WILL SHIP YOU A DSL MODEM AND ALL THE WIRES,FILTERS AND INSTALL SOFTWARE.YOU WILL ALSO NEED A ROUTER.I USE A WRT54G LINKSYS WIRELESS ROUTER.AFTER YOU ARE ALL CONNECTED,JUST FOLLOW THE CD INSTALLATION STEPS FOR ROUTER PASSPHRASE/PASSCODE FOR YOUR ROUTER.YOU WILL THEN HAVE CREATED YOUR WIRELESS HOME NETWORK.

  2. You'd only need a router if you wanted to set up wireless access to your internet connection at home.  You can do that either secured or unsecured, your choice.

To access a secured wireless network, you need the access keys from the network's owner.  The reason that they secure the network is to keep unwanted people (that's you in this case) out of their network.  Attempting to access a secured network without permission of the owner is a crime; don't go there.
