i am looking for some wireless headphones that will work with a tv.

they are for my grandmother, and she asked for them to be as lightweight as possible, she doesn't want the type that completely cover your ears.

her tv is quite old and only has scart and audio (red and white) connections.

thanks in advance

  1. I don't think there's a wireless headphone set that can hook into a TV without a headphone jack already built in.

  2. there is a way! i done it! it might be a bit technical tho. I built an fm transmitter (low power), intead of using a microphone, i connected a jack lead to one of the audio sockets on the tv to where the microphone was supposed to be on the transmitter. This thing transmits on the commercial FM frequency 88-108Mhz (im in UK)  so get a standard low profile fm radio with headphones and tune it in! or if u have a mobile phone with built in radio, just plug the earphones in that.

if u cant build it, they sell on ebay for £10. just desolder the mic and replace it with the jack lead.

  3. If the red and white phono sockets are marked 'audio out', you should be able to get hold of a headphone preamplifier that can be connected to the TV.  You can then plug the wireless headphone sender in to the preamp, and away you go.

However, do be aware that all wireless speakers and headphones are subject to static, interference and breakup, due to weather conditions, passing vehicles, mobile phones, electrical appliances or even just walking around the room.  Technology hasn't ironed all the bugs out yet!
