Wireless access point problem?

i have three laptops all which are able to use wireless interner. one has wireless card the other two have inbuilt wireless recievers.

i bought a "wireless access point" and it is a linksys console. the problems is when i try to connect multiple systems to the network only one connect and the rest are connected with limited access or dont even connect.

i think the problem is because the access point is connected directly to my modem which only connects to one laptop at a time. it thought it should be connected to a dsl router or something like that.

or would i be able to connect multiple systems if i buy a "wireless router" and connect it to modem.

please i need help

  1. you are right you need a router because the modem itself can't assign private ip's to your computers neither the access point. That's why only one device can access to the internet.

    Regards.

  2. You need a DHCP server.  Which happens to come with all consumer routers.  I like the Linksys WRT54G.  Buy it and get rid of your access point.
