Ok, so I have a router and I'm pretty far from it at around 25% and occasionally it slows down or drops the signal, now at first I thought it was the router but I got a new one which is slightly better I usually get around 40% and I was thinking wait is this my laptop? it happens a few times a day and it happens on both IE and FF, this didn't happen before and I was wondering what is going on.

  1. This is pretty normal for wireless. The signal drops on occasion.

As long as it's not happening more than 3-5times a day, it's normal.

Getting an extremely expensive router could probably eliminate this problem, but I wouldn't consider it worth it.

  2. Wireless transmissions weaken with distance and ultimately will be too weak to function.  Wireless transmission does not penetrate through masonry and metal to any appreciable degree.

This is the problem.  The solution is to run wired links to wireless access points near where you wish to use the wireless pc.

  3. laptop which has built in wireless adaptor,if it has internal physical problem, get external wireless adaptor.

  4. your laptop may has a problem with receiving the signal

you should go to an expert to check it

also maybe your connection is bad so the signal isn't strong
