Wireless advice?

I've tried several times to get different types of internet but every where I went locally wanted me to get some bundled deal where I had to have a phone and every other contraption invented by man since the telephone. I just want an internet I can pay for myself. It doesn't even have to be high speed so long as it's easy for me to hook up and use. I've dismissed cable and dsl because that means having to deal with either our phone company or our cable company. I want it to be separate from that and I keep coming back to interest in Wireless internet only I don't know how that works and what I need to do. I know I can access wireless internet at the local barnes and noble but that's across town and doesn't help me any. What do I need to do to get wireless internet? What equipment will I need? What service is available for me to purchase wireless internet and for how much how long? Are there restrictions to downloading through wireless? If anyone can answer questions juststraightforward

  1. Bite the bulet and go for DSL , it ain't that hard

  2. Good Question!  If you are tossing out your local cable or dsl provider you arnt left with many options.  You mention your wireless signal that you use in cafes and such.  You probably cannot find a provider who will give you service without extra equipment in that case (unless you live in a city/town that specifically provides wifi to the public).  The wireless in your laptop is short range.  There are wireless broadband providers, but most likely they will need to put a dish or receiver on or in your house (if they even exist near you).  An alternative source of broadband internet while still avoiding dealing with your cable/phone company would be to find a local provider.  Check your phone book, or ask around.  There are smaller companies that use the phone lines but are not the phone company.  They would love to sell you internet only, its their business!

  3. Well there are wimax and cellular providers.  T-Mobile is a cellular provider.  They offer a $49.99 unlimited data access plan.  I am not sure what wimax costs.  You might want to google search it.  I live in Minnesota.  I searched for wimax minnesota in google.
