Question:

Wireless connection from laptop?

I recently had a to run the recovery disc on my laptop and subsequently re-install everything. When I try to use the wireless connection (which I've never had a problem with before) it says the signal strength is 'excellent' but only gives 'limited or no connectivity' and is not connected. When I run the repair on this it gives a message saying the repair could not be done because it was unable to renew the ip address.

I've tried everything I can think of and have run out of ideas now. Can anyone help? Thanks

  1. A bit of an obvious one, maybe, but have you tried to disable and re-enable the Wireless connection? Also, if it's your own router/modem, maybe rebooting that too.

  2. Try Buying Talk Talk Wireless Connection Box Ive Got This Works Every time All The Time,!

Also Make Sure The Box Maker Is NET-GEAR Its Brilliant I Had No Problems With This,

Maybe If You Have Warranty Send It To Your Local PC Shop And Ask Them To Help,

  3. I also have that problem just make sure you are putting it in the same USB connection...I tried using another port and I got that message but when I connected to the port I 1st started off with repaired it worked fine...sometimes mine also says signal strength is excellent yet I get no internet but that seems to always happen on my PC and there are 2 USB pots in front of my computer so sometimes when I take it out of my laptop to put it in my computer I sometimes get it in the lower port get that error message and have to put in the other port...so make sure you are putting it in the right USB port you started it out with also never have it already on the laptop when you are booting it up or you will get that error message always boot up and then put in the wireless connection in the same port...good luck I have that happen to me at least once a week.

  4. Your router may be set up to block all IP addresses except your old one.

Get a network cable and plus it into the router.

Type 192.168.1.1 into IE and access the router.

Then get it to enable all IP addresses.

    If it ain't that I ain't got a clue!

  5. Hello,

(ANS) The IP address can be renewed by the following method:-

No.1 from the start button>start menu>run option>open the run command.

No.2 type in the following CMD.exe and press enter or return.

No.3 You should now see a DOS type screen with black screen & white text. At the C:\> command prompt please carefully type the following commands.

    C:\>IPCONFIG /RELEASE

    Press enter

No.4 again from the command prompt please now type the following

    C:\>IPCONFIG /RENEW

    Press enter

This will release any old IP address that was associated with the network adapter and re-assign a new IP or fresh IP address to the network card. That should work.

**NOTE: Wireless routers often are configured to give out an IP address using a built in DHCP server. This server is part of the router.

**The IP address has to be successfully "bound" or affixed to the network card in question before you can gain internet or network access.

    Ivan.

  6. Ohh - lol I know what is wrong.

You need to give your laptop the security code to access the network. It knows the network is there, but the router will not accept the laptop because it thinks the laptop doesnt have authorization.

Normally, you can type in "192.168.2.1" into the web browser from either a wired computer or a computer that is already on the network. From there, navigate into the security/WAP settings and use that code.

You may want to "disconnect" from the network (even though your not connected at all). Then reconnect to the network using the security key.

  7. Your computer is experiencing a very common problem when setting up wireless networks. Often, the wizard on your computer that automatically detects and connects to your wireless network will only connect to the router and not connect to the internet that the router is providing. Manually connecting to your network will allow for you to select the right network and allow the connection troubleshooting wizard to diagnose any problems.

First, open control panel on your computer and select the category dealing with internet connections (if you are viewing control panel in category view). Then select "wireless connections" or "wireless configuration utility" depending on how old your computer is. You will see a screen with a list of several wireless networks in the area. If you do not see any networks, it is likely that your wireless network card is not setup properly or it is not compatible with something on your network such as an operating system or router.

If you can see your network in the list (shown as the router's name that you should have assigned it), select it and click connect. The program will then attempt to connect to the router followed by the internet connection. If you cannot establish a connection at all, your wireless card is not compatible with your router. If you can get a connection to the router, the program might prompt you for the router's password (if you assigned one for it). Then the program will attempt to connect to the internet through the router. If a second window opens telling you that a connection could not be established, click troubleshoot and the program will establish a connection properly.

If you select troubleshoot several times and you still cannot establish an internet connection but you can connect to the router, there might be a problem with your local area connection or your internet modem.
