Question:

Wireless connection issues? HELP!!?

I'm connected from my laptop by a high-speed wireless DSL router in my house. However, the connection is lost several times in a one-hour span and the connection window says I have "limited connectivity" (which basically means I'm disconnected). This annoying problem resolves itself about half a minute later, only to happen again around ten minutes later. Is there a way I can fix this issue?

  2. I am presuming that you have a DSL modem / router / switch / wireless access point all in one integrated unit.  This can make troubleshooting harder.  You also do not indicate if you are moving around when your connection fails.

First you need to determine whether the problem is with the wireless transmission OR the router OR the internet signal.  Once this is resolved then you can fix it.

Set the laptop in the same room as the wireless access point and have both in an unblocked line of sight between the two devices.  Run it and see if the problem is seen.  If it is, shut off the wireless transmission and your wireless port on your pc and connect with a straight CAT5 patch cord and run this and see if the problem is seen.  If the problem is seen with the wired connection, then either your notebook wireless port is faulty or the wireless access point is faulty and these need to be checked further.  If the wired link also shows failure, the modem / router / switch / wireless unit is faulty and you need to contact the DSL provider with that info.
