Question:

Wireless interference and cell phones?

I have a Blackberry Curve, a Linksys WRK54G router (it's a POS), and Zonet ZEW2500P USB wireless receiver.

Whenever I use my cellphone (during a call, not just sitting there) besides my computer it seems to interfere with the wireless signal from the router, so much so actually that my signal strength normally drops about 40%!

I had read that cellphones can cause some interference before, but this seems a little extreme.

Is there anything I can do to help lessen the interference? Besides hanging up obviously.

  1. Who is your provider?

If you are using a CDMA provider (Sprint, Verizon) you shouldnt have any problems with interference

GSM (Tmobile or AT&T) or iDen  (Nextel) is another story - you might want to try to and switch the channel your Wireless is broadcasting on - I run on my channel 3 to keep any interfence from occouring.

  2. Strange, WiFi runs @ 2.4, Cellphones around 1900. Shouldnt be interference. However, login to your Linksys router (http://192.168.1.1) and check out your wireless settings, advanced settings. Play around with different Wifi Channels, they are usually 1 - 11. Some of the other channels might give you better results.
