Question:

Wireless internet USB adapter versus wireless network card?

I have a wireless internet USB adapter which I get wireless internet from, however an online game I play disconnects so much, however some other times it could stay online for all day. It's very random how long it stays on for, could be a little bit could be a long time. I sometimes change USB adapter hole thingy's and it works better, other times it's just a royal.. c*nt...

Would it make a difference if I got a wireless internet card? I assumed that it would however I talked to a friend who said that their wireless internet card was worse than the USB adapter..

Any suggestions on how to get this to work better in general or in regards to whether or not a card would be better than a USB adapter?

Thanks, Jillian.

  1. There are only 2 differences:

Most cards have better antennas than USB adapters.

The internal buss of the computer is faster than a USB device.

What you have to determine is *where* you're getting disconnected.  It could be anywhere from the game server (out there on the internet somewhere) to your computer.  Fixing something that's not broken won't solve your problem.

Does the entire internet disconnect or just that game?  When it's disconnected can you connect to your modem (or router)?  One leg at a time, until you find out what's disconnecting.  Then maybe someone will be able to help you.

  2. wireless network card is the best
