I have a new laptop and have tried to get pick up a signal from home. There is a name, and when I try to connect it ask for a password. If I locate the person, would it be rude to ask for the password? It is a security-enabled network.

  1. YES! because they are paying for the internet and put a password so nobody could tap into it! so just find another one that people have been careless enough to no set a password

  2. LOL!!!  Maybe you should try using your sweet southern charm on them.  :)  Otherwise pay for the Internet like everyone else and quit filching off of people.

  3. Uh yes, they put the password for a reason.

Unless you want to pay for it, you can ask them, but it won't be to reliable since you can't configure it, or troubleshoot it yourself if "your" internet goes down.

  4. yes it would be very rude to ask for there password, they are paying for there wireless internet and they have a password on it so no-one but them can use it. You need to buy the internet and use your own.

  5. I don't think it's rude to ask, but be prepared to be laughed at. The reason the password is there is to keep other people out.

You should also know that it's illegal to circumvent the password protection by guessing the password or hacking the network.

  6. well it depends. the name u saw is either one of ur neighbor's wireless network. they set up a password for it so only the people at their house can access their own wireless network. if you go to a hotspot (like starbucks) u might be able to access it for free (if u order coffee 'LOL) but if its ur neigbor's own network, most likely they did set up a password for it so only they can use it. what u could do is u could buy a router and connect it to ur own internet connection, u can alos set up ur own password, that way u can always use ur own connection at home.

    i hope this helps :)
