Hello, we have had a wireless internet connection at my house for a long time now, but someone changed the password for it and we don't know who.

I was wondering how would you reset the password? also the wireless internet box thingy has no buttons on and i have spent a long time today trying to guess what password it is, can anyone help me? Because i would be very grateful because at the moment i am unable to go on the internet without it because my laptop will only let me on the internet with the wireless (i am on my dads laptop at the moment)

Many thanks x

  1. You should have a reset  button to take it to the factory settings. It will be a little hole just big enough to push a ball point pen in to.

  2. ALL routers have a tiny button on the back, normally inside a hole and you need to press it with a straightened paper clip or similar. Do NOT do this until you have a copy of the manual. Use someone else's machine, or connect wired to your router and download from the manufacturer's site. with the manual you will find out how to reset it correctly, and the original default login name and password. If you did not set encryption on it somebody has probably taken it over and is using it themselves. You MUST set a new admin password on it as soon as you get it reset, you must also set an encryption key, or local criminals could be using it  to send thousands of child p**n or money scam emails which will trace back to you.

  3. Yes, look for the reset switch which is usually inside a small hole through which you can insert a pin or ball-pen tip. Hold it down and switch on the router, and keep it held down for 10secs. You may need to turn it off and then on. If it is a Sky router, the default password is then SKY and username is admin.

    For others see:

    http://www.routerpasswords.com/

Do change the password when you get in and set up WPA security with a new keyword.

  4. There might be a small reset button on the wireless router which should reset it or since you can sonnect wirelessly with a laptop them you could probably get the password off the laptop because if the laptop can connect that means it has the password.

  5. If you post the make and model number of the router (the model number is on the label), someone can help you more exactly.
