Wireless internet not working?

Question

I'm using dialup right now because my wireless isn't working. Everything looks fine, I'm connected and everything but whenever I go to a site, it says "Page could not load". I'm not receiving any signal, but I'm connected and it's fine. Any idea why? And any idea to get it working?

There are tons of things to troubleshoot, but I'll try the initial (I'll assume you are on Windows):

1. "connect" the way you said you did in your question

2. Open a site to get your "Page could not load"

3. Start - Run and type CMD  then hit enter

4. At this black screen type the following and hit enter

ping google.com

5. You should get something back like

"Reply from 72.14.207.99: bytes=32 time =44 TTL 241"

6. If it does not say "Reply from" you have something stopping you from hitting the net.

7. type the following and hit enter

ipconfig /all

If you are able to ping google, then call your ISP and they will need the info provided with the "ipconfig /all" command

could be firewall, could be bad router, bad modem, you upset the isp and they turned you off, voodoo, who knows....but may the force be with you none the less

disconect the power cable from the modem and the white s***w on cable thing from it

wait a while reconnect power

IF U HAVE A HIGHSPEED INTERNET no dialup AND IF U HAVE A ROUTER UNPLUG EVERYTHING AND WAIT 10 SEC IF THAT DOESNT WORK CALL YOUR INTERNET PROVIDER AND I AM SURE THEY WILL HELP YOU

You say you're 'connected'...do you mean your computer is connected with the router?

If so, your modem (which goes to your router via a cable) is not connecting to the internet service provider (ISP).

The modem will have to be told what your ISP gave you as the 'username' and password in order to connect to the WAN (aka Internet)

To set these values, connect your computer to the modems 'IN' (or Internet in') slot with a CAT5 cable (aka Ethernet cable) and type in "192.168.1.1" (no quotes).into a browser address bar.

This gives the interface to the modem properties.

Next find the heading/tab for 'Connection' (or similar) and find the spaces to enter these login values.

Make sure to 'Save' the new settings before leaving this web browser interface.

Unhook the 'puter, and reconnect the modem to the router.  The router may have to then be 'reset' to incorporate the new connection values.

Shutdown pc, unplug the router and modem, wait for at least 5 - 10 mins then connect the modem first, wait until the lights are finished blinking, then connect the router.

Try doing this also if that didn't work:-close internet explorer, click on start, control panel, internet options, advanced, restore advanced settings, apply, ok. In the same window; click on general,delete,delete all, (check) also delete files and settings stored by add-ons, click on yes.

mine does that..we have went through 3 routers, it may be a bad router other wise just unplug and restart it.

turn off the computer.  Then unplug the power plug for the cable modem, and unplug the power plug for the router.  Wait 30 seconds.  Plug them back in.  Turn computer on.  It should work.
