Wireless internet trouble?

I have just bought a 24 dbi grid antenna to connect to my parents away they are using a linksys wireless router with 2, 12dbi antennas their house is just 50 ft from my house but my signal is still very weak. What could be the problem?

Could be the distance and perhaps the strength of the DSL connection itself.

sounds like their dsl

ours blasts through brick, plaster, cement and out onto the patio
