Question:

Wireless light on router blinking when not being used?

I have an Actiontec MI424WR wireless router, and although we do use wireless, whenever we are not using our wireless laptops (i.e. they are off), the wireless light on the router continues to blink, but it should not when we are not using the wireless. I don't think someone is "piggybacking" on our wireless connection because we have a strong WPA key (not WEP). Is there any way I can find out what is causing this light to be blinking when it should not be? Thanks.

  1. Router lights are always blinking no mater if you are using it or not.

  2. Your wireless router always send out beacons (so wireless adapters can see it, unless you disabled this feature).

Computers on a network even when not being used talk (ARP, DHCP, Broadcasts, NTP, etc...

If your computer is on, but your not using it; maybe you have programs like Anti-Virus getting updates (AV goes onti internet and gets updates).
