my 2wire200 wireless modem for our internet has five areas that need to be working and have a greeen light on to get the internet: power, ethernet, wireless, DSL and internet. but every other day it seems that i go on the internet and it says on the comp screen, DSL cant connect, and i then check the modem and the DSL light is flashing from green to red and the internet green light isnt on but the ethernet wireless and power still are.

its reallly annoying,it tends to happen at night and then its working again in the morning and i would be buggered if this happened when i realy needed the interent. any suggestions how to make it work again when it does this?

  1. You will probably need to get the assistance of your ISP to correct this issue. The fact that all the LOCAL network is still OK just the DSL drops is because of communication between the router and the ISP.

It could be as simple as the PPPoE settings or MAC address of the router but in either case, if the router stops talking to the ISP... you will need the assistance of the ISP to find out why.  (2Wire modems/gateways are combined modems and routers)

It could even be a bad line issue needing service.

  2. change your preferred network cause sometimes it picks up automatically. If you are using Windows XP .... what you have to do is go to WIRELESS CONNECTION> PROPERTIES > WIRELESS NETWORKS > under preferred network, remove all from the lists exept yours. I hope it works ok. if not try to unplug your modem and a router for 15 secs. then put them back. Good luck!
