Wireless not connected in ubuntu

hi,
i have an hp notebook with atheros wireless card>>i installed ubuntu 8.10(interpid ibex) and it works beautifully except the wireless part<<after a lot of tries i am able to see that wireless netorks detected,but not showing any wireless network name or ssid in my network manager.ii think my drivers are properly installed.what should i do for recognising my ssid.
additional info--using wep key -64bit passphrase.
--with xp and vista it works fine on same machine.
