I would like to print from my HP laptop (wireless connected through my home wireless network.

My other computer is a desktop hooked to the printer via USB and to the router via ethernet cable.

And just want to let you know that the laptop is running Vista and the desktop running XP.

  1. you can reinstall the printer on the main computer ( attached to the printer) as a network printer

install the printer software in the laptop ( so that it can communicate with the printer)

easiest way is with a program called network magic

it will set it up in a swoop

    http://www.networkmagic.com/

  2. Make sure the printer is installed properly on the desktop. From there open the Printers & Faxes control panel and Right-click the printer and select "Properties". From there go to "Sharing" and turn on File and Printer Sharing. Go through that whole process, give the Printer a name, and make sure it still works.

Then, use your laptop and "Add a New Printer". Select "A network printer or printer connected to another computer". Search the directory for it, and it should come up under the Workgroup your desktop is in (You can check this by right clicking "My Computer", selecting properties, and then Clicking the Computer Name tab.)
