Question:

Wireless router not transmitting WLAN or LAN, but input WAN is working?

I am trying to set up my new internet, but my wireless router, Trendnet TEW-432BRP, is not working. Although I have verified that the input from my cable modem (Motorola SB5101 surfboard with Charter Cable) is working, neither the wired or wireless connections to the router are getting internet.

I have tried resetting the router and have checked all settings that I could think of in my router management page (proving that my computer can see the router, there is just no internet). I used this router in my last apartment (with TimeWarner cable internet), so I know this should be working.

Any ideas why I can't access the internet, although my computer can see the router through a LAN connection, and the WAN input is verified to work when not going through the router.

Thanks for your help!

  1. Actually, since I used to have them, I can tell you that charter validates by MAC addressing! Now what that means is that you may end up having to call them to get the routers mac address (that is a physical hard coded address) recognized.

You need to be sure you followed this setup exactly first!

Unplug the modem - pull the power out of the Motorola)

Unplug the Router - pull the power out.

Shutdown the computers! (all of them)

Then wait two full minutes - time it! I mean TWO FULL MINUTES!

Turn on the MODEM wait for it to show connection.

Turn on the ROUTER wait for it to show connection and the lights to settle down.

Turn on your computer (preferrably, the one that was originally connected to the Motorola Router - using ethernet!).

See if you have internet!  If you do, your done!

If not. login to the  Trendnet and see if there is a "CLONE MAC ADDRESS" setting, There is a setting in most routers that allows the router to actually copy the computers MAC address and use it. If you have that setting just copy the MAC address from the computer to the router. Reboot the router.. you should have internet at that point..

If not you will have to call charter to reset the circuit. (Sorry but they can be a pain!)

    Let us know.

(added: I read your added comments--- please read and follow these directions! Let us know what happens!)

ADD - You missread me.. you need to use the MAC address of the COMPUTER which was connected Not the MODEM! And be sure the WAN settings are set to DHCP!

  2. was the router supplied by your last isp or did you buy it in a store? if it was supplied by time warner it could be locked to their system so it wont work with any other isp, many isps do this so you must stay with them unless you buy a new router, if it is locked you will need to get yourself another router

  3. Hi

I think that although the router has been reset I think that this still needs the information put in for the new connection. Maybe you need to log on to the router and put the information that you now use to connect to the internet. Username and password for the new account and the other inforamtation required.

    Hope this helps
