Wireless router problem. Phillips with Virgin broadband?

I have recently brought a router in the hope of wireless internet. However.. I get to the point where everything is almost installed then it comes up with no internet connection? Im connected fine when I just attach the ethernet cable to the back of the pc but as soon as I do it through the router it fails. One problem may be that it asks for a username and password which was provided by the ISP but I rung virgin and they said it should be a username provided by phillips? Help anyone? ?

  1. If you are on Virgin cable, the router wont work. If you are on Virgin ADSL broadband, Then you need to go into the routers home page and set it up.

Make sure everything is plugged in then type in the routers address into your browser.(with philips, it is usually http://192.168.2.1 ) You will be asked to log in to the router. Most philips user/passwords are admin/admin or admin/password. You then need to set up the connection. You will need the ADSL login and password that virgin gave you. This is usually looks like an email address like username@virgin.net or similar.

Follow the steps that your router promts you to take and it should work fine. If you get stuck, check out the forums at thinkbroadband.com, they are excellent.

    Good luck :)

  2. I know what you are going through right now because I had the same problem for weeks and I was so frustrated. Anyway I had a Philips SNB 5600 wireless router and virgin media broadband. Okay I had a lot of problems with mine, so I am suggesting just a few. Firstly, go to the network connections diagram thing. The one where it probably shows your laptop connected to the router but no internet to the router. Double click on the x and try to fix it when the options come. Mine worked after that. Hope it helped.

  3. It sounds as if the username and password you are being asked for is the one you use to access email sent to your VirginMedia address.

  4. router user-name = admin

password = admin. most routers uses this combination but i can not guarantee if your is like that

Follow the proper installation process i am sure you will get there
