Question:

Wireless router problem?

by  |  earlier

Ive recently bought a router and it works great except sometimes I randomly lose my connection for a few seconds and then I get it back. I know that distance isnt an issue because my router is right under my computer. Can the wireless router be TOO close to the computer? Also Im using this for other computers to connect to the internet mainly. The computer that loses the connection is wired into the router.

anyone have an answer?

thanks

  1. I have exactly the same problem, im found no answer to this, and have just learned to live with it.

Make sure the firmware is updated.

  2. I went through Tech Support h**l with D-Link, replaced 3 Routers, reloaded my wireless adapter software and changed the settings on my computer all to no avail. I recently found out Wireless Routers have close proximity dead spots. Simply move your Router 3-5 feet from the computer, as high up as you can get it and as far away from any other electronic devices as you can and you'll be all set. I went from 134 kpbs to 2755 kpbs just by doing this.

  3. Unfortunately you have not provided sufficient information to offer assistance. Things that need to be known: 1) Router model and version, 2) Firmware version. Since the computer losing connection is using the wired ethernet connection, then computer proximity to the router ( being too close) is not likely the problem, unless that computer has a wireless capability and it is also turned on.  If the computer that is having the problem does in fact have both wired and wireless capability and both are turned on, then turn the wireless interface off and see if the problem changes. You suggested that there are other computers using this router, and maybe they are wireless connected 'only' ?  Try installing Wireshark and putting a trace on the network interface to see what is happening.

I see from your update while I was responding that you sometime turn on both interfaces... Go into my network places and set the Metric parameter to 2 or higher on that wired connection and you might be able to keep both interfaces enabled...

  4. Some routers do that, there really isn't anything you can do other than buying a higher quality router. Your double connection idea won't do any good because the router is the one causing problems, not the cable that connects it.

  5. The problem is not the Router, the problem is your internet conection and/or your provider !

About being conected using RJ45 and Wireless, it does not matter, one of them will be used, usually the wireless by ur laptop.

Get to the setup page of your Mode/Router, make sure you have the latest upgrade flash.
