  1. There is probably a reset hole on the router that will take it back to it's factory defaults.

If you put password reset and the model of router you have into your browser, you'll probably find a detailed how-to that is specific to your router.  That's what I did with my linksys.  It will also tell you what the default username and password is there.

  2. The process differs from manufacturer to manufacture, but it typically involves sticking a pen or paper clip into the reset port while power cycling the device.

Visit the site of the manufacturer of your device, download the manual and it should containt the default username and password.

  3. reset passphrase using your routers management interface.  Look under wireless security section.

  4. Simply unplug the power from the router for 10 seconds, and plug back in.  That MIGHT save your forgotten key and pass phrase and get your DSL modem "stirring" once again.

Either that or it'll blank out to factory defaults--which you're still OK; you'll just have to create a new pass phrase.  Default security key settings generally are 0000 or something like that.  I'd refer back to the router owner's manual on that one.

If your DSL gets "booted" or freezes up, use the "Diagnose Connection Problems" on the Windows error page--that helps, too sometimes.

  5. Every router has a reset button on the router itself. This is the ONLY way to reset it if you have lost the password. If you post the Brand I can look up exactly where the reset button is, but generally it's just a button somewhere on the back of the router that you have to press and hold for 15 seconds, then release, it will then reset the router to the default username and password - usually "admin" for username and "password" for password. It could also be "admin" for both. (No quotes)
