Wireless router vs. wireless phone?

I would like to purchase a wireless router, and would like your advice which to pick.

Limitations:

- The router should work in conjunction with my laptop which has an external TRENDNet 54Mbps Wireless PC Card TEW-421PC (IEEE 802.11g/2.4GHz).

- I use a wireless Panasonic phone operating on 2.4GHz (Model No. KX-TG2583S).

What are my options?

I was using a 2.4GHz phone with my Belkin wireless G router. When the phone rang, it cut off the internet connection. I had to get a phone that  was higher than 2.4GHz in order for it to perform correctly. I hope this helps you a little.
