Wireless routing question?

There are three computers in my house. My dad's is in his bedroom with the DSL modem. My PC is in the livingroom and is is attached to my dad's DSL modem via a long cable. I also have an Apple iBook G3 with airport card. I want to use a wireless router so I can use my laptop anywhere in the house. Is there anyway to keep my PC set up as it is, but with a wireless router next to it? Can I take the DSL cable from my PC and plug it into the router? Won't this mean that I have to switch the cable back and forth from the router to the PC when I want to use internet on my PC? My PC is not wireless enabled and will have to stay connected to the internet via a cable. Or, can I just plug a third cable into the DSL modem and run that to the router, leaving my PC directly connected?

  1. the wireless router normally have ports for wired network too, this way you can connect via wireless and in the same time other computers can connect via wire ( ethernet cable) you can even have multiport router (typically 4) and you can connect 4 wired PC's plus several wireless computers.

  2. DSL modem has only one port for the internet so the router comes next then your PC connected to the router via cable. enable the wireless on the router to have your apple connected as well.

  3. use cable

suppose you dad internet speed is 512 kpbs and when you connect it via a wireless signal it will maximum 23 kpbs so better use cable

  4. You can plug the wireless router directly into the DSL Modem as long as it has enough ports.
