Hello, hope someone can help! we have oil central heating and currently we can only set the heating to come on twice a day, which is frustrating and costly. Can anyone tell me if its possible to get a thermostat fitted, so that we can keep the house at a constant temp, or override the timer if it gets too hot etc. and how easy would this be to be install with the timer we have already?

Thanks x

  1. It is possible, Seimens make radio controlled thermostats, we have one for our Gas central heating. I wouldn't know how to fit one though, you would have to employ a tradesman.

  2. What you need is a 'programmable thermostat' this will enable you to set up to six time/temperature periods for each day of the week. You will be able to lower or raise temp. at any time for any period, or set to maual or off.  I have installed dozens of these, both wired and wireless versions. The receiver will replace the existing timer, the wireless timer/stat will be installed somewhere suitable, often the hallway. Honeywell (CM900)  and Danfoss make suitable controllers. These controls are also available with optimum start.
