i'm not sure what I need or what it would be called, but i would like to put my dvd player and cable connection in one room, in the other room i have a plasma tv.

this is going in an old shore home so there is only one cable hook up in the house very far from where the tv is. instead of running wire can i plug the cable hook up and dvd player into some sort of wireless device that will then transmit the wireless cable signal to the tv so that i need no cords by the tv besides the power cable?

  1. you could use a long component cable or hdmi cable through a a/v receiver and let the receiver does the a/v switching.

connect everything to the receiver audio and video from the dvd and cable box and one cable from the receiver monitor out to the plasma.

the drawback you need to use the speakers connected to the receiver.

    or get something like this

and run the output cable to the tv something like this

    or

a component cable plus a RCA audio cable like in (red and white cable)

it just matter of picture quality and component its better than composite.

the best would be a a/v switcher with upconverted to HDMI but that would cost a lot more than a a/v receiver plus speakers.

a wireless solutions dont exist and if it does it wont be too good to transmitting audio and video from multiple sources to a plasma, wired its always better than wireless.

  2. Samsung has a wireless media box,  but it is expensive and only can be purchased with a led lcd tv.  The best solution like ht guru said would to be run a long cable, component or HDMI from equipment to your set.  You should have some one do it for you if you want the wires hidden in the wall,  because it can get difficult.

  3. wireless av look up something liek that
