  1. I too see that  on my laptop, it's a very common problem, there is no real answer, only a few steps to try to battle this. It seems Vista, like XP when that first came out, has "compatability issues' with some hardware and software. It's very important that you keep up with Vista updates, at least for now. Take these steps to see if it helps:

    1) Disable, not remove, TCP/IP protocol 6. Right click on the wireless network icon on the system tray by the clock, bottom right corner. Select Network and Sharing Center. Ok. Now...you'll see your wireless connection status....click on view status.....wireless properties....under the General Tab, make sure all those options are checked, all 3. Click OK.

    2) In that same box, go to...........PROPERTIES....you'll see a box with some stuff that's checked off...uncheck the box that corresponds to internet protocol version 6. Leave the other settings alone although if you're not directly sharing with other computers in your home, uncheck client for microsoft networks and file and printer sharing.  OK good.

    3) Ok so far we've checked those 3 options under wireless properties and disabled TCP/IP version 6. Good Job!! Now....just a few more things, you should still have that first properties box up, with the wireless properties option, now go to PROPERTIES and in that list of stuff, where version 6 in now unchecked, double click on internet protocol version 4. OK under the General Tab, make sure  that Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are both checked. Ok NOW.....on that same page where you set the auto obtain info...click on ADVANCED.....then click the WINS tab and look for the option that says DISABLE NetBIOS Over TCP/IP.....check that option. Then click OK. Click OK again. And again.

    4) One more place to go. Get to CONTROL PANEL. Go to Administrative Tools and open up "services". This is a risky place, be careful! Lots of stuff here, look for DHCP Client and DNS Client....they should both be on Automatic and Started...if they aren't, double click each one and you'll see a little drop down menu, just make sure it's set to Automatic and started.  Ok in that same list, look for....IP helper and disable it. Look for TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper and disable that too. Disable NetTcpPortSharing.

    Reboot you computer.

Will this stop it from happening? NO. it will help somewhat though, it's more of a Vista issue having it's own issues with pretty much every network card in the universe. Keep Vista updated!!!

  2. When I connect to my network it also says Access Local only but I am connected to the internet.

Try Control panel then the network and sharing centre and click on diagnose this connection, that may help
