Question:

Wiring AC contactor on my outside compressor?

My outside ac compressor stopped working, so I took it off to take to Home Depot to get a replacement. They did not have one, so I put the old one back on. I think that I put the wires back on incorrectly, because now it will turn on by itself, and when I turn the thermostat on, the compressor stops working and my circut breaker gets thrown off inside of my house.

Does anyone out there know how it should be wired correctly. It's a duel contactor, on one side I got two blacks and one red, on the other side I have a single brown and a single black.

There are two connectors that go on the side (I know those are right ) and two that attach right below where you bolt down the wires, one connector for each side.

HELP!!

  1. Give up, you should not be playing with this anyway.Your not going about it the correct way.Call a pro and get it handled properly. You could cause a fire.Do not turn it on anymore leave the breaker off. This is very dangerous...

  2. ok first of all how did you get the refegernt out? cus with out a licesen u can get in trouble for messing with that. unless ur talking about  just a window unit

  3. Sounds as though you have your power (line side)  some of it wired on the load side of your two pole contact er. You also may have other wires in the wrong place.

The color of the wires won't mean a thing unless they are marked on the unit wiring diagram (usuallyy on the cover to the electrical section of your unit. Incoming powers wires oar usuall attached to the terminals marked "L" as in L1 and L2 which are line one and line two. the load side of the contact or is marked T-1 and T-2 which is the side  the components are wired.

look for the wiring diagram/ take time to find colors/load and line sides and other coded connections on the diagram.

If diagram is not legible.. Model number and serial number will find you a diagram with the on line Addy of the manufacturer
