Question:

Wiring Subwoofers: Is 12ohm better than 1.3ohm??

I have 3 Subwoofers. Pioneers. 1000Watts Peak a piece. I am getting a 3000Watt Kole Audio Amp that runs at 1700 Watts to 1 Channel at 1ohm. I can wire my 3 subs to that one channel and they would be 1.3ohm but I can also wire them to be 12ohm. So, my question is do I get less power from my amp. Would I be getting something like 150 watts if I run the subs at 12ohm?? Or would it be better??

  1. run em at 1.3.

  2. Basically, the lower the resistance (ohms) the more power you will get from the amp (and the less stable your amp will become). The higher the resistance (ohms) the less amount of power you will get, and at 12 ohms, that would be waaaaay too high. 8 ohms, maybe, but it wouldn't do you any good.

I would definitely wire them at 1.33 ohms ::

Dont be too concerned that it is not at exactly 1ohm, you wont notice the difference. Not to mention that the Kole Amp is not the best amp in the world and probably wont do that amount of power anyway.

Just for future reference, dont look at the max power ratings. They are a false statement. Basically saying what the amp or sub can do at one time, but it will never do this consistently. That's why you want to look at the Rms ratings. This is your continuous power handling and this is what you need to rate by.

    Enjoy

  3. Run them all in parallel so you get 1.3 ohms. this will make them pull more current from the amp and be louder. as your amp is stable down to 1 ohm you will be fine.

and yes, at 12 ohms you would pull substantially less current from the amp, so less power and a lot less noise!!

  4. with the kind of subs and amp u have  run them at 1.33 ohm and u will be happy
