Question:

Wiring a Component System with a 4 channel amp?

So my question basically has to do with why I have so many wires...I have 4 wires (2 + and 2 -) that were connected to my factor speakers. Then I have a crossover that accepts 6 wires (obviously 3 + and 3 -) However in the end I always come up with 8 wires no matter what I do. I have 2 coming from the tweeters, 2 coming from the amp, 2 coming from the woofer, and 2 coming from the car. What goes where and do any of these connect and then go to the crossover. Basically I don't know where to connect my factory speaker wire that were connected to the old speakers.

  1. Hold on... something doesn't sound quite right here... how did you manage to get wires from the car AND the amp??? the car hooks up to the amp, and the amp to the speakers!!!

the crossover should have the tweeter + speaker (or woofer) + the amp connected to it, That's ALL.

There is two ways to hook up an amp.... eathier run all 4 speaker wires to the main head unit, and use the head unit wires (meaning the normal speaker wires) to connect to the crossover, OR run the speaker wires from the amp STRIGHT to each speaker, in which case, you SHOULDN'T connect the normal speaker wires anyomore.... either way, you'll end up with 3 sets of wires, not for 4!

    good luck!
