I just bought a stereo for my 93 jeep cherokee. It's a kenwood kcd-mp538u. It did not come with a manual and I'm lost. So if you have any info on how to hook it up, I would really appreciate it! Thanks!!!

  1. Start by Stopping.

You will need 2 harnesses. One from your radio and one for your vehicle. These will be connected together and go between your car and the stereo.

Go buy the wiring harness available for your vehicle from Best Buy or Circuit City (Walmart if you can stomach the place)

Your harness model number should be 70-1002 and is made by Metra

and then once you have that harness - get the wiring harness from your radio and color match the leads to one another.

Crimp the wires together with crimp caps or butt connectors (availabe at auto parts stores)

    Now plug your radio in.

If you run into problems - go see a professional for help.

  2. Well by rule of thumb generally the radios usually have the same color coding of the wires, red=switched power, yellow=battery or constant power. Each of the four speakers have their own two like colored wires fused together. the one of the 2 wires will have a black line in it and the other is the solid color. The one with the line is the negative. White=LF, gray=RF,green or teal color=LR, and purple=RR. The black wire is ground and if your truck uses a power antenna hook up the blue wire. And plug in the antenna wire in the back of the radio. Make sure to get an aftermarket wire harness to wire the radio wires into and not cut the wires coming from your dash that is a hack job. Then you will probably need a mounting kit too. You can get the harness and mounting kit at most auto parts stores or like walmart.
