Question:

Wiring diagram or suggestions...?

I'm building a set of cornhole boards for a buddy of mine. I thought it would be cool to put LED's around the outside of the board so you can see where you're throwing the beanbags at night.

I'm not an electrical genius, so I'm not really sure what I'm doing. Normal LED's I'm fine with I think, but I'm getting in a bit above my head.

My goal is to have 50 white LED's around the perimeter of the board connected to one switch. These ones I don't believe will be a problem for me. I also want to have 10-20 red LED's "chasing" eachother around the hole on the board. What is the best way to wire this? Also, is there a way to hook the lights up so they flash to sound? Any help would be great. If you have a wiring diagram for something like this or can send me one, please email me.

  1. White LED's are expensive, but yellow ones are quite cheap.  An LED is a current-operated device, typically using 10 milliamperes, so a power supply with current limiting capability is essential.  Fortunately, cheap resistors will do the trick nicely.  Go to Radio Shack, and get the following gadgetry: a plastic battery clip that will hold four D-cells, and the cells to put in it; a switch of some kind, some wire (size isn't important), as many yellow or red LED's as you want (say, fifty), and half as many 200 ohm resistors as LED's.  Prepare strings by wiring two LED's in series with each other and with one of the resistors.  Test each string by applying six volts; if you've got it right, both LEDs in each string will light.  Now install the strings in your substrate, and wire all of the strings in parallel with each other.  Run one of the parallel lines through the switch, and thence to the battery pack.  This will give only a steady glow -- no flashing or rotations; that's a whole different ball game.  For that, consider Christmas tree lights -- which, if you have line power handy, you could use for the whole deal instead of LED's.

  2. white LEDS are expensive! same with blue.

chasers can be made, basically a digital flipflop....

check out Ramsey electronics for some kits you could modify.

    Cornhole eh??

No one outside of SW OH, NKY, or SE IN ever heard of corn hole.
