Currently rehabbing a 150 yr old home in Philly.

We currently have the ceilings open, we put in recessed lighting and now is good time to wire for some kind of speakers on 1st floor.

What type of wiring and speakers should we be looking for(middle of the road price range)? We have no systems in place whatsoever, any links and suggestions are more than welcome.

Our main use for the speakers in the ceilings would be coming from MP3's on the laptop if thats any help.

Thanks to all in advance.

  1. The other answerer's are right about the wire itself.  You want speaker wire that has an outer jacket for in wall use:

There are lots of nice ceiling speakers out there:

You will need some type of amplifier too:

  2. good 16 Gage wire, you can get a spool of 100 feet at radio shack for 19.99 and its made to be put in walls, it comes in white and brown

  3. You'll need in-wall-rated speaker wire.  For in-wall speakers I would recommend Moderno or SpeakerCraft.
