Wiring shop from house 100 ft 8 gauge wire all tools have 15a start up . do i use 15 or 20 amp /

what size panel box within code/ 50amp or ? / 100, 135.

8 guage wire is for 40 amp service

but a 100 foot wire i would use 6 guage wire and a 40 amp main breaker at house  going out to the garage.

then the regular outlet breakers at garage would be 15 amp and 14 guage wire. use a small box at garage with say room from 4 to 6 breakers.

You can use the 6 guage as the ground wire back to the house.

The panel box in the garage will only receive the electric from the house panel box. It will need to be through a breaker in the house. 50 amp. 100 feet, 6 ga. The panel in the garage will only need to handle a couple of breakers. 15 amp 14 ga wire or 20 amp 12 ga wire. If tools have 15 amp start up you might need 20 amp (12 ga wire) for garage circuits.Be safe.
