  1. try to go to the ms dos or command or you can go start run and type cmd and enter.

then type ipconfig /flushdns and enter

then again type ipconfig /release and enter

then again type ipconfig /renew and enter

    You will be connected.

  2. if it is happening after the windows update, click the link to follow the steps

  3. it is not typically Zone Alarm or updates that cause that if every other pc works, it could be that the router has MAC address filtering turned on (which would render all NIC\WNIC,

Wirless or network interface cards who have not had their MAC addresses added to that list). Or the DCHP server on the laptop is not configured properly. Things like that can cause wired\wireless adapters not to connect properly. The best way is to see, what settings you have on your router, try and re-set your router then try and see if windows will connect it automatically.

You can see if the wireless card can ping your default gateway (router) to see if it is responding properly if its not, make sure your router configuration settings like MAC address filtering has your moms laptop MAC address listed. Because this stops other computers connecting (wireless ones). Depending on your router also. Usually the problem for this is the DCHP server can't resolve an IP address from your router.

Or simply go to the console and type in commands like:

ipconfig /all ( which should display your current IP settings, i'd the make sure the default gateway is you routers address windows should configure this automatically however it depends on your network setup)

    if not try ipconfig /renew

this should reset your connection, instead of restarting your pc.

to try and then see if you have a connection on the console (dos screen) try this:

    ping www.cnn.com

you should get a response, if not there are other problems so have been mentioned above.

    Hope this helps.
