Wirless internet how do you do it ?

when i try to take wireless internet from my neighbors from my laptop i see that the internet connection is there but when i click it it just trys to connect for a bit but never actually does. why does it do this and how do i make it so it connects or the signal to be stronger what do i do.

Hi Jon, I may be n00b to yahoo but i set up networks for a living.

there are a number of problems that may be.

1) your close enough to the transmitter to pick up details but too far to log in. many routers are about 80ft but they vary and obviously walls make a difference,

2)if your neighbors Router (I'm guessing its via a router) is near a wireless phone they can cause some confusions and end up throwing your off the network before your even on it.

3)If they have a password and you enter it wrong, it may appear to log in but then just timeout. OBVIOUSLY you have there permission just get a program such as SIW (i'll put it in source list) and you can get there key.

Your probably to far away, or they have a security code.

make a cantenna to point at his signal or look for ALL of the signals within 200 feet of your computer.

or get cavalier for white hot dsl

hey,

your wireless connection is too far away. or they have it locked so no one can use it. so first i would check and see if your neighbor house is visible, see on your computer the good the signal is. then if that doesn't help try moving your computer closer and see if it helps if not. then there wireless connection isn't working.
