Wisconsin Badgers rout Green Bay Phoenix 70-42: NCAA Basketball Recap
After opening the NCAA Basketball Tournament 2011 in style with six consecutive wins, Wisconsin Badgers, lost their way somewhat and lost two games in a row last week.
The Badgers had four days break after their disappointing outing last Saturday and upon returning, they battered the Green Bay Phoenix 70-42.
It was a thoroughly dominating performance as Badgers dictated the terms right from the start to the very end. Phoenix on the other hand, despite trailing behind, were in the game by the end of first frame, but as it progressed
further, Badgers pushed them completely out of the game.
Jordan Taylor, who had a horrible last game and committed five turnovers, was outstanding tonight and completed a magnificent double-double by scoring 15 points and dishing out 10 assists.
Badgers coach, Bo Ryan, thrilled with the win was all praise for his senior guard. He added
"Ten assists, zero turnovers -- there's not too many guys in the country that have that. He found the open guy. ... That's being a good point guard."
Ryan Evans and Jared Berggren were also impressive and supported Taylor well by scoring 14 and 13 points respectively. Alec Brown was the only highlight from the sorry score card of Phoenix. He accumulated 10 points and forced
4 rebounds.
Ben Brust and Rob Wilson drilled back to back three’s in the opening minutes to lead Badgers to a 6-0 start. Keifer Sykes then lifted a driving layup from the other end to open the scoring for his side.
Both sides slugged it out in the next few minutes and the Badgers were just ahead by a point 12-11 with ten minutes remaining in the frame. Badgers, then reeled off a 14-1 spurt to land themselves in a dominating position 26-12.
They managed to maintain the double digit lead until the end of the half and entered the second half with a psychological edge, ahead by 33-21.
Jared, Ryan and Taylor continued the attack in the deciding frame and mounted the lead to 20 odd points. With 10 minutes remaining, Phoenix found themselves trailing behind 23 points 52-29.
That was it.
Phoenix never recovered from the massive deficit and gave up the fight few minutes later to complete their 5th loss of the tournament.
