Question:

Wisconsin State Insurance & The Military?

As of right now I am on Wisconsin State insurance & FoodShare, the bf and I are thinking about getting married so we can live on base after Basic Training. Now the question is, in order for things to go smoothly we should be married before he leaves for Basic, but I'm afraid I will loose my insurance, but I still need it while he is at Basic training.

What is the best way to handle this and will I loose the insurance?

  1. Speaking from experience. You would only loose your insurance once you husband would become eligible for family coverage insurance. If you new family income levels are no longer within the limits and if you have no other coverage you can still get state insurance but you may have to pay a small premium based on your income. As soon as your new husband is eligible for insurance you would be too through the military and since Wisconsin has no military bases near by  that provide medical services you would still be able to see you local doctors. Good luck

  2. You don't say how you qualified for State Insurance and Food Share, but if you are pregnant, they usually have different financial guidelines that allow more income in the household and still qualify. Unfortunately, if not, it's entirely likely that you will not be qualified once you are married. It also depends on how often you need to prove your income amounts. If it's quarterly, you might be able to keep the insurance until he's done. But again, that depends on why you need the insurance....
