Wisconsin without Chris Borland for rest of season
The Wisconsin Badgers will be without star linebacker Chris Borland for the rest of the season because of re-occurring problems with a recently surgically repaired shoulder.
Borland re-injured the shoulder in Wisconsin’s game against Arizona State on Saturday. The sophomore originally did damage to the shoulder last season and underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in January.
Borland was forced to miss all of spring practice while recovering, but was in the Badgers line-up for the first game of the season against University of Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the youngster hurt the shoulder in the game and sat out the squad’s second game
against San Diego State. He returned to the line-up against the Sun Devils, but re-aggravated the injury once again.
Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema spoke on Borland’s injury, saying. “After talking with our training staff and with Chris, we decided that the best thing for Chris was to shut him down for the rest of the
year. Obviously, Chris is a tremendous player and a ferocious competitor, but after looking at all the options, everyone agreed this was the only option for him.”
Borland was only able to participate in six games a season ago and because of his injury troubles and lack of availability he is allowed a medical hardship. The hardship would allow the youngster to retain
three years of eligibility.
The 3-0 Badgers are likely to miss Borland as they still have games against #25 Michigan State, #2 Ohio State, #18 Iowa State and #21 Michigan remaining, as the Big 12 is quickly challenging the SEC as the
most competitive conference in college football.
Borland was outstanding last year, being named Big 12 Freshman of the Year. He recorded 54 tackles, three forced fumbles, 10 ½ tackles for a loss and five sacks.
