Question:

Wisdom Teeth, What Causes Infections?

My boyfriend's mom (who's crazy) won't let him work up a sweat because she believes that it will cause an infection where he just had his wisdom teeth pulled. I was wondering if there is anyway possible, besides an infection from some sort of bacteria, that working up a sweat and getting your blood pumping that could cause an infection? He had his wisdom teeth pulled a week ago and has the dissolvable stitches that should be healing up right around now anyway. Please help.

  1. No, working up a sweat will not cause an infection.  However, most dentists and oral surgeons recommend waiting two weeks before being physically active after having wisdom teeth removed.  This is to speed healing and prevent loss of the blood clot that forms in the socket.  It will not cause an infection.
