Question:

Wisdom Tooth Treatment Without Removal

What can a person do to treat a swollen, infected area of gum tissue that is being irritated by a partially emerged (impacted) wisdom tooth, without pulling the tooth? The tooth in question seems to be perfectly healthy, and I know the risk of developing a cavitation under the extraction site is high, plus I am older (35 years old), so the tooth is quite firmly embedded in the bone. Long story short, I'd like to leave this tooth intact, but my gum is severely inflamed and infected, despite taking a lot of strong supplements and even antibiotics, which I normally avoid. What can I do?

  1. Honey, wisdom teeth infections can get pretty serious. It's a pain in the *** getting them taken out, but it'll save you a lot of money on Advil as well as headaches in the long run.

  2. Gargle with salt water but keep an eye on it. I had similar problems with my wisdom teeth when I had them and the infection spread to my sinuses and got very unpleasant. Good luck!
